Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
