Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
