Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
