Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
