Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
