Before you Tilt
Ah, the steam. If a poker gambler states never to have looked over the barrel of an approaching poker tilt – they are either telling a lie or they have not been playing for a long time. This does not infer of course that every poker player has been on steam in the past, a number of people have excellent control and carry their losses as a loss and leave it at that. To be a great poker gambler, it’s absolutely critical to approach your successes and your defeats in the same way – with no emotion. You play the match the same way you did following a tough beat like you would after winning a big hand. All poker pros are not attracted by tilting after an awful defeat as they are incredibly experienced and you must be to.
You need to understand that you will not win each hand you are in, regardless if you are the strongest player. Hands that frequently make people go on tilt are hands that you were the leading choice or at least believed you were until you were rivered and you lost a gigantic chunk of your stack. Awful beats are bound to develop. Embrace that fact right now, I will say it once again – if your brother plays cards, if your parents enjoy cards, if your grandma enjoys cards – We all have bad defeats sometime. It’s an inevitable effect of playing Texas Hold’em, or for that matter any type of poker.
After all we are assumingly (almost all of us) playing poker for one reason – to earn $$$$, it certainly makes sense that we would bet appropriately to maximize our profit potential. Now let’s say you are up $100 off of a 100 dollars deposit, and you suffer a big blow in a No Limits game and your bankroll is at one hundred and twenty dollars. You have burned eighty dollars in a hand where you were sure to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you went all-in on the flop and had a 10 – 1 edge. And that guy! He bled you dry on the river? – Well hold it right there. This is a quintessential opportunity for a new bettor to begin tilting. They basically blew too much $$$$ on one hand that they really should have won and they are pissed
