Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
