NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
