Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
